My name is Michael Budd. I am an 18 year old Freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am an undeclared major, but I plan on majoring in either computer engineering or electrical engineering. The purpose of this blog is for it to be a place where I can place my thoughts about different topics within language and writing. This blog should be read because some of the topics covered will be interesting. I personally think it is important to understand how other people think. This blog will allow whoever is reading to understand my thought process at a certain point of time within the English class. My thoughts on blogging are mixed. When it is done right, I think it is a powerful tool of communicating one's opinion, and finding others who believe the same things you do. When it is done wrong (ex: tumblr), I believe it is pointless and stupid. I used tumblr as an example because many people my age use it. Tumblr is a blog site and social network in one. On tumblr, most people just repost pictures that other users post on their tumblr. It is rare that you see a person on tumblr actually blogging. Some might argue that posting those pictures for tumblr is indeed blogging. I believe people are just taking those pictures for that reason, to post them on tumblr. They are staged pictures with a certain purpose. There is no thought behind those pictures except for saying it would be cool to have it on tumblr.
