Introduction to portfolio:
Hello, my name is Michael Budd. This electronic portfolio is
a display of work that has been done throughout the year in my English 1102 class.
English 1102 has taught me a lot about writing, and refreshed me on some things
I have learned previously. For instance, there were times during the course
where we had peer review sessions. Peer review sessions opened my eyes to the importance of peer review itself. My instructor also provided some new guidelines and processes about peer review that I did not know prior to the class. I learned to
try to be constructive with my critique. I should be specific, give
suggestions, and give praise when it is needed throughout reviewing. The type
of writing I was assigned to complete varied between assignments. I wrote a
personal essay with a word restriction, a research paper that is different from
every research paper I wrote and a lot of reflective writing about my own
writing, or ideas expressed in the writing of others. This variation in the
type of writing I did has helped me to become a better writer overall. I feel
that I am a more complete writer when it comes to writing now. The way I think about writing has changed due to the work done in my English course. I now actually think
about writing’s use and value. I view writing as an art. There are some people
that spend mass amounts of time honing their writing abilities and techniques,
and there are others that just do it for fun. Either way it is still an art
that is often taken for granted. This
portfolio will allow anyone that is viewing it to see my progression in
writing, and the way I think about it.
